Crennel, 62, spent four seasons as the head coach of the Browns before he was fired from the job following the 2008 season. The Browns posted a 24-40 record with Crennel at the helm, including a 10-6 mark during the 2007 season and a second-place finish in the AFC North. The team also drafted Pro-Bowl offensive lineman Joe Thomas, wide receiver Braylon Edwards and quarterback Brady Quinn during Crennel's tenure, and picked up free agent quarterback Derek Anderson in 2005.
Crennel took the Browns' top job after four seasons as the defensive coordinator for the New England Patriots, where he helped the team win three Super Bowls (2001, 2003, 2004). He took the Patriots job after a short-lived season as the Browns defensive line coach, and he worked in the same role for the New York Jets and the Patriots during the 1990s. He also won two Super Bowls on the coaching staff of the New York Giants from 1983-1992.
He played college ball at Western Kentucky, and is originally from Lynchburg, Va.
